Mountain getaway with a side of southern charm: Blue Ridge, GA

Blue Ridge, Georgia was my first visit to the South, and it changed my world for the better! Hidden away in the Blue Ridge mountains is where you'll find the sweetest little town full of southern hospitality and charm. Stay at a cabin in Ellijay, which is about 10 minutes north of Blue Ridge, for a cheaper and more secluded residence.

Activities:

  • If you visit in the summer, renting a pontoon boat on Lake Blue Ridge is a must (don't forget the tube!). There is no better feeling than cruising around looking at the stunning lakeside mansions, then going for a dip in the clear and warm lake.

  • Go apple picking at Mercier's Orchard, and grab a jug of their apple cider or sweet tea

  • Take a drive to the town of Helen! Helen is a German inspired mountain town, that happens to have a killer river float through it! There is nowhere I'd rather be on a hot Georgia day. If you're feelin' frisky ride the mountain coaster afterwards for a quick thrill and scenic views.

  • Ocoee Whitewater Center river rafting. Need I say more? THIS IS A MUST DO!!! I have nothing else to say, except this should be at the top of your list!!

Food:

  • Most times, my family has enjoyed a home cooked meal with a view of the mountains from our deck, but we have enjoyed the occasional meal out!

  • The Black Sheep Restaurant is a classier take on southern style meals and offers a great selection of wine and cocktails (and sweet tea!).P.S. Don't ride the sheep. The workers were not amused. Oh well?...

  • The Back Porch Bistro is great for a mid afternoon shopping break. Take a seat on their backyard-style porch for some cozy southern food -the reuben sandwich is my personal fave- and a side of sweet tea, of course.
