How To Maximize Comfort On Your Road Trip
If you’re driving more than seven hours, my golden rule is simple: comfort, comfort, and more comfort.
I love a good road trip, but sometimes I just want to get there as quickly—and as comfortably—as possible. Whether you’re heading out solo or road-tripping with friends, here’s your ultimate guide to packing like a pro!
Comfort is Key: Dressing for the Road
The ideal road trip outfit is all about feeling cozy while still looking put-together (because yes, we can have both).
The Essentials:
✅ Comfy bottoms (leggings, sweatpants, soft shorts—basically anything you can sit in for hours without regretting your life choices)
✅ Tank top (TRUST ME, this is non-negotiable)
✅ Zip-up jacket or crewneck (for when the AC gets aggressive)
Sitting in a car for hours in tight jeans that you’ll naturally unbutton after eating your first snack? Absolutely not. Wear something pajama-adjacent but still gas-station-presentable.
The tank top is a game-changer. If you've ever been stuck in a stuffy car for hours, you know the struggle. Start with a tank, and if you can go braless under it for maximum comfort? Even better.
Shoes matter more than you think. If you’re the type who curls up like a pretzel every 30 minutes, slip-on shoes are your best friend. Leave the bulky sneakers at home. And please—for the love of road trip harmony—don’t be the person who takes their shoes off and stinks up the car.
Fuel Up! Packing the Perfect Snacks
Food is fuel, food is joy, food is essential for surviving a long drive. The key? Pack your snacks BEFORE you hit the road.
Stock up at the grocery store. You’ll be hungrier than you think, and it’s always better to overpack than underpack.
Make a sandwich before you leave. Stopping for fast food is expensive, adds unnecessary time, and will probably give you a stomachache 30 minutes later (unless it’s Chick-fil-A, in which case, we respect the detour).
The three snack categories you need:
🍫 Sweet: One fruity, one chocolatey—because cravings happen.
🥨 Salty: Something crunchy (chips or pretzels). Go for the big bag because, let’s be real, the driver is definitely going to pull a ‘dad tax’ (iykyk).
😴 Boredom Snack: This is the MVP when you're hitting hour six, tired of singing, and just need something to do. Think Goldfish, trail mix, or popcorn—something you can mindlessly snack on for entertainment.
The Playlist of Your Childhood Dreams
A road trip playlist can make or break the journey—especially if the driver with questionable music taste pulls the dreaded “my car, my music” card.
Two options:
🎶 Curate the ultimate playlist ahead of time and secure DJ privileges.
🎵 Play "Radio Roulette" (patent pending on the name).
How to play Radio Roulette:
Pick a theme (e.g., 2000s throwbacks, Disney songs, or guilty pleasure hits).
Everyone in the car picks one song that fits the theme and takes turns adding it to the queue.
Once everyone’s song has played, pick a new theme and keep the vibes fresh.
Enjoy discovering new bangers while making the drive go by faster.
Too much effort? Just throw on a podcast like Hot Mess or The Fairly Odd Sisters for some effortless entertainment (Those are my favorites).
Final Thoughts
Road trips can be a blast—as long as you pack smart. Keep it comfy, bring the right snacks, and curate the perfect playlist. Now, grab your keys, gather your crew, and hit the road like a pro. 🚗💨
