Why Manly Beach Was Rated One of the Best Beaches in 2025 by TripAdvisor

Every year, TripAdvisor compiles a list of the best beaches in the world, based on traveler reviews, ratings, and experiences. In 2025, Manly Beach secured the 15th spot globally—a well-deserved recognition for this iconic Australian destination. Unlike the calm, crystal-blue waters of Caribbean beaches, Manly Beach stands out for its vibrant surfer culture, energetic atmosphere, and incredible mix of food, fitness, and fun. So, what makes it truly special?

1. A Unique Beach Atmosphere

Manly Beach isn’t your typical tranquil paradise. Instead of still turquoise waters, you’ll find rolling waves perfect for surfing and an active beach culture that defines the area. When I visited in mid-summer, a surf life-saving competition was taking place, and the beach was packed with people running, doing yoga, surfing, and enjoying the outdoors. Everyone walks around barefoot—even through town. It felt odd at first, but honestly, I could get on board with it. It just adds to the laid-back, carefree vibe of the place.

2. Great Food and Beach Cafés

One of the best things about Manly Beach is the abundance of beachside cafés and restaurants. Whether you’re looking for a fresh acai bowl, a poke bowl, or a delicious seafood dish, there are plenty of healthy and flavorful options. Grabbing a coffee and watching the surfers from one of the many outdoor cafés is an experience in itself.

3. Touristy but with Local Gems

Manly Beach can get touristy, especially near the main strip, but there are plenty of spots that feel more local and laid-back. If you venture just a little beyond the main areas, you’ll find quieter beaches, hidden cafés, and a more relaxed atmosphere that offers the best of both worlds.

4. Easily Accessible & Affordable

One of the best parts about visiting Manly is how easy and cheap it is to get there. A scenic 20-minute ferry ride from Sydney’s Circular Quay offers incredible views of the Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge, and surrounding beaches. And at only about $7 USD for the ferry, it’s one of the most affordable ways to experience an incredible beach day just outside the city.

5. Walkable & Close to Other Beaches

Manly Beach isn’t just a destination on its own—it’s a gateway to other stunning spots. The area is extremely walkable, and within a short stroll, you can reach quieter beaches like Shelly Beach or take the breathtaking coastal walk toward other hidden gems along the Northern Beaches.

6. Weather Doesn’t Kill the Vibes

When I visited, the weather was less than ideal—gray skies, partly cloudy, and about 60°F, which is pretty chilly for mid-summer in Australia. It was at the tail end of a major summer storm, but the vibes were still high. The beach was still busy, people were out surfing, and the cafés were packed. That’s the thing about Manly—it’s not just about the sun and sand; it’s the energy and lifestyle that make it special.

Final Thoughts

Manly Beach absolutely deserves its ranking as the 15th best beach in the world. What sets it apart isn’t just the scenery—it’s the experience. The mix of surfing, fitness, great food, and an overall youthful, lively atmosphere makes it one of the most fun and dynamic beach destinations out there. If you’re looking for more than just a place to sunbathe, Manly Beach delivers an unforgettable vibe that’s hard to beat.
